Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter two sticks
  • 1 14oz. can evaporated milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (do not use milk chocolate chips)
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

How to make Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce from scratch:

  1. Place the butter, evaporated milk, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and powdered sugar in a medium-sized sauce pan over medium-high heat. Stirring constantly, bring the mixture to a boil and continue to boil for 6 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and whisk the vanilla into the hot fudge.
  3. Let it cool slightly, and serve warm. Store any leftover hot fudge in a jar in the refrigerator to be warmed up later.

Double it and freeze:

We love to make an extra batch of this homemade fudge ahead of time, it’s nice to keep some in the freezer for a quick dessert, or to give to a friend. Homemade fudge makes a sweet treat to give. You can make it up to 3 weeks in advance and freeze it.

To reheat it you can warm it up in small batches in a microwave safe container, stir after every 30 seconds in the microwave until desired temperature. If the fudge is too hot, it will melt the ice cream too fast, so it’s best not to overheat the fudge. You can also reheat it in a saucepan set to medium heat, watching it to prevent it from overheating or burning.

Hot Fudge Sauce goes great with:

  • Homemade Brownies from scratch
  • Crispy Pecan Ice Cream Pie Crust
  • Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookies (Pizookies)
  • Pink Peppermint Ice Cream Bars
  • Eclair Squares
  • Fried Ice Cream

It’s so good!

What kind of semi sweet chocolate chips?

We love Guittard Brand chocolate chips or Nestle Semi-Sweet chocolate chips are good too.

Make homemade evaporated milk:

We usually keep cans of evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk in our pantry, but on the odd chance that we don’t have it, it’s nice to know you can make it at home. Follow this recipe to make evaporated milk or sweetened condensed milk if you want to avoid an unnecessary trip to the store.
