Love working from home but your workspace just isn't cutting it? We've tried the kitchen counter, sofa, and even our beds on occasion (sorry, not sorry), but there's something about a clearly defined home office that makes us the most productive. If you live in a smaller condo or apartment, chances are you don't have space for a dedicated office. We're currently loving the office-in-bedroom movement because it creates an efficient work space in our favorite room. Curious about how to create a home office that will physically divide your bed from your desk? Check out our favorite bedroom office ideas below.

To make your bedroom workspace ergonomic, pick out a desk and matching desk chair. While we all consider just using furniture we already have to work from home (think: dining chair and a console table), the proper chairs and desks for small bedrooms will make you more comfortable. If you have limited space, opt for a leaning ladder desk with built-in shelves or a small desk, which is usually less than 40" wide.

The more storage space you have in your home office, the happier you'll be. Yes, built-in bookcases are the dream idea, but if your bedroom doesn't have them, you're still in luck. Grab a filing cabinet – yes, they make cooler ones than your grandfather's old metal ones now – and fill it with important paperwork and books. One of our favorite bedroom office ideas is using a bedroom bench for office storage. Simply place desk organizers inside the bench, fill it with necessities like staples, tape, and toner, and then lift the top whenever you need to grab something. This helps keep your office space and your bedroom clutter-free.

Visually separate the office from the rest of your bedroom by placing art above the desk. One large piece works, but a gallery wall looks great, too. You'll feel inspired when looking up at your art, and it will feel like its own defined "room" – completely separate from the sleeping area of your bedroom. Another effective idea, you can also separate your work area by using an open bookcase. Fill it with your favorite books, plants, and modern decor. When you are lounging in bed at night, you won't have to see your workspace and you can fully relax.

Consider facing your desk up against a window and away from the bed. This way you can enjoy a bright workspace and you won't have to stare longingly at your cozy bed all day. Don't have tons of natural light? Add a desk lamp or a decorative tray with a couple of candles. Then when it's time for lunch, turn off the lamp or blow out the candles and step away from your home office for a designated break. #Balance

Decor is so important when considering bedroom office ideas. Creating a WFH setup that you actually want to spend time in kind of alleviates the Sunday scaries. We love placing plants – yes, real plants! – in our bedroom office because it adds a live element to the room. Bonus: You'll be more likely to remember to water your plants if you spend time looking at them each day. A small rug in a bright color or a soft sheepskin rug will make the office feel cozy and welcoming. Consider placing a large basket on the floor for loose odds and ends. Choose practical items that work for you without going overboard and inducing any unnecessary stress.

If the idea of sleeping beside your office space gives you nightmares, create a chilled-out, minimalist-inspired office. This bare-bones design is on trend and highly functional. Blond-toned wood desks warm up your home office and blend with wood floors for a relaxed look. If you've been blessed with a walk-in closet, take your home office desk ideas one step further and place your desk and chair in the closet. When you're finished working for the day, shut the door and don't give your office a second thought.

Trying to find ideas on how to create a home office in a tiny apartment? If you have a guest bedroom, consider using it as a multifunctional bedroom and office area. Swap out a traditional bed for a space-saving sleeper sofa or daybed to make room for a desk and chair. If changing the bed isn't an option, opt for a writing desk instead of a traditional desk and use floating shelves to store office supplies. A writing desk looks like a console table and is on the thinner side. It will give you just enough space for a laptop and notebook without taking up too much room.

If you have little ones that need a space to work on homework and school projects, consider creating a bedroom office nook for them. Side-by-side ladder desks create a cool industrial look that will get them into homework mode. Desks with built-in shelves provide a space for textbooks and school supplies. Look for office chairs that tuck under the desk to create more space to play when they aren't working.
