However, if you are a new user of Ring Doorbell, it can seem almost impossible to figure out what your doorbell is telling you, as was the case with me.
Distinct patterns on your Ring Doorbell can mean different things. Initially, I also was very much confused by my Ring Doorbell blinking blue.
But over time, encountering issues like live view not working, I had to dabble in Ring doorbell maintenance many times, including when I wrote a guide to install them to a door.

Ring Doorbell Blinking Blue During Setup
Usually, you’ll see the Ring Doorbell blue light spinning during setup. The Ring doorbell blinks blue to indicate that your doorbell is trying to connect to your home WiFi network.
Upon entering the wrong password on the Ring app during setup, the top half of the blue light will flash, telling you to re-enter the password to complete the setup.
Once the setup is complete, the light will flash blue four times and then display a white circle to signify that it is ready for use.
Ensure to have a steady and strong WiFi connection to your doorbell. Otherwise, you can face a delay in its functioning.
Ring Blue Light Flashing At Random Times
If you see your Ring Doorbell flashing blue at one-second intervals at any time after the setup is complete, it means that your doorbell is rebooting.
This happens whenever your doorbell loses power or if it receives an automatic firmware update.
When the doorbell is flashing steadily, all you need to do is wait and allow your Ring Doorbell to reboot. This action may take a few minutes.
It is common for Ring Doorbells to reboot occasionally. However, if this is a regular occurrence, it may be a problem.
To ensure this doesn’t happen, make sure to charge your Ring Doorbell battery regularly.

Ring Doorbell Flashing Blue While Charging

For the first and second-generation Ring Doorbells, you charge the battery by inserting the charging cable directly into the port behind the doorbell.

Like the Ring Doorbell, the blue light’s function in Ring Chime is to tell you the status of the device.
A solid blue light indicates that the Chime is functioning perfectly, no light means it is not receiving any power, and a blinking blue light means there is some other issue with the device.
When the blue light is flashing, it can mean one of four things:
- The device is setting up.
- The device is rebooting.
- The device is reconnecting to the WiFi network.
- An automatic update is being installed to the device.
