WHO IS PRINCE RAINIER (III)?

Prince Rainier III was the ruler of the tiny European principality of Monaco from 1949 until he passed away in 2005. He is most well-known in these parts for his marriage to American movie star Grace Kelly. Princess Grace predeceased His Serene Highness in a 1982 auto accident. Monaco is a mere 0.78 sq.mi. in area. With an approximate population of 38.5 thousand, only about 9.5 are Monegasque nationals. Compatriots means fellow citizens so he must have been referring to them. It’s not as easy to gain citizenship in Monaco as some may think.

Prince Rainier apparently forgot that Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein could probably make the same claim. His small European principality is larger (62 sq.mi.) than Monaco, but its total population is also about 38.5 thousand. On August 15, every year, National Day is held at Vaduz Castle where the Prince and other royals mingle with the general public.

Joe thought it was Jordan’s King Hussein, who died in 1999. He bet nothing, standing pat on $7,300.

Lawrence had King Rainier, which was not acceptable because Rainier’s title was Prince. Lawrence bet and lost his whole $10,000.

Sam wrote down Spain’s Juan Carlos I, who turned 85 this year. Sam lost $1,601 but won the game with $16,799. Sam advances to the finals.

2 triple stumpers from ‘ROUND MIDNIGHT:

($1200) Her: “Drink & dance & laugh & lie, love the reeling midnight through, for tomorrow we shall die! (but, alas, we never do)”

($2000) “The Other Side of Me” is a memoir by this author of “The Other Side of Midnight”
